We’re looking for a junior backend developer to join an innovative start-up specialising in healthcare technology based in Oxford. This is an exciting time to join the organisation, and having left the commercial research phase they are now looking to implement the necessary processes to enable the business to scale and grow.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone who is keen to learn, curious about new technology and wants to dig into areas that need fixing and improving!
In terms of experience we’re open minded in terms of tech and back ground… we’re looking for an understanding of web standards, design patterns, and browser compatibility issues however this will be a varied role, so other than that we’re looking for -
* JavaScript or Python (1-2 years of experience)
* Source control using Git (1-2 years of experience)

If you are looking to build your software development skills this role will immerse you in an experienced team who will help you to grow. It’s working within the UX team focussing on the software functionality – we’re keen to see candidates who want to learn and aren’t afraid to pick up new skills as the existing backend / web based front end is built in Node.JS and is used by customers through desktop web browsers and mobile devices.

Here’s an idea of some of the things you could learn - it would be great if you have any project example experience but not necessary for applications:
* Node.js
* ECMAScript 6 or above
* React or similar frontend application libraries
* Webpack
* Cordova
* SQLite or other SQL databases
* Amazon S3
* Test Driven Development

There will be opportunities to get involved in projects across the company developing and refining tooling used by our Research, DevOps and Commercial teams and to be a success in this role you will:
* Love writing good quality code to solve real-world problems in healthcare
* Enjoy building prototypes and iterating based on customer feedback
* Be comfortable in a fast-moving environment where priorities may change quickly
* Be open to feedback and happy to discuss different approaches at stand-up meetings
* Want to learn, be curious and dig into areas that need fixing and improving
* Be pragmatic, self-motivated and goal oriented

Ultimately, the right person for this role is pragmatic and self-motivated and someone who is comfortable in a fast-moving environment where priorities may change quickly. We are not looking for someone with 100% of the skills outlined here so if you’d like more information please apply or call Jon on 02920252500
