About the company…
Sometimes, the most important thing to consider… our client are tech focussed, they love what they do and they love utilising technology to improve their working life. They also have an overall aim of a company to help people. Operating for approximately 5 years, they entered the market 3 years ago and have grown their UK office to approx 200 employees’; for a start-up, that’s pretty good going and shows how well they are doing.

They’ve got no signs slowing down and they are now looking for a Network Engineer to help complement their existing infrastructure teams.

About you…
As a company, they like collaborative people to join them. They work in a flat structure where everyone’s opinions are taken on board in regards to new projects / new technologies. We are ideally looking for these kind of people, obviously it’s great if you can work autonomously and pick up new responsibilities without being asked but, suppose it’s just about being a good person who’s good at their job.

Obviously, the networking element is pretty key. As well as having a good technical skillset it would be great if you’ve worked in a scaling company. The main reason behind this, you know that you’ve got to be flexible, to adapt to new tech and new processes quickly; but you also know how it get things done and how to work with other members in the team / company to reach the overarching strategies.

What you’ll be doing…
Networking. That’s the short version. The long version, everything you can possibly think of that would interact with networking technologies. You will help with improve the network infrastructure, assist with building monitoring solutions, do the data centre healthchecks / upgrades, design the future architecture (with scale in mind!) and be one of the networking gurus within the team. You’ll work closely with system architects to make sure the infrastructure is built in the right way.

What you can work with…
Tech stack wise we are looking for candidates with the below experience; the types of vendors / brands you’ve worked with isn’t really essential. Obviously they have their set up, and you will be using that, however the experience is the main thing for us;
* Experience running large enterprise networks; from managing switch / router configuration all the way to HLDs for data centre migrations.
* Strong firewall experience, ideally implementing, configuring and maintaining; the usual vendors apply – Cisco, Juniper, FortiGate, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Sonicwall, Barracuda etc.
* Experience with the OSI layers (as many as possible) as well as the protocols (TCP, IP, BGP, OSPF) associated with it.
* Due to their environment, we want candidates who can work with Linux as an OS and who, ideally, have some experience with scripting languages associated. Our client love automation so you can kind of guess why we asking for it.
* The ability and experience to build and maintain a software defined network.

In an ideal world as well as the above you’ll have experience with IDS/IPS, with some SNMP monitoring chucked in, with a little bit of security knowledge however we’re not going to ask for everything possible.

Next steps…
Apply, apply and apply, we’ll see how suitable you are and then get in touch to tell you more about the opportunity.
