Platform Engineer

  • Reference IP29828-JE-AM
  • Salary £55,000 - £85,000
  • Location London
  • Job type Permanent

We’re helping to scale the team for an innovative tech first platform team and keen to speak to engineers who care about the needs of the users as well as enjoy investigating complex issues!

We’re not looking for someone to tick every box below, we want to speak with engineers that have a genuine interest in picking up and learning cool new tech, particularly within areas like Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, Vault, Prometheus, Go, Docker and K8S!
As a Platform Engineer, you’ll be involved in the development and infrastructure surrounding internal tools so experience in that space would be great. More than anything though we want people with an opinion, its as much about technical experience as it is about choosing the right tech and why its best to go down that route - they don’t have weird job titles, must haves and a wish list of skill sets, they are open to the right candidate and looking for people that can add real value to what they do.

In the role the successful platform engineer will work across multiple workstreams and projects – overall you will help architect, deploy and operate an AWS application infrastructure, working closely with engineers to build internal tools for automation. The team do this by running multiple Kubernetes clusters in AWS, creating common tooling to aid in development tasks and running shared services such as Elasticsearch, Vault and Prometheus.

Company wise you certainly would have heard of them and the group they are a part of… team wise they’re a really creative bunch, offering a highly innovative, creative & flexible working atmosphere. They use technology to outmanoeuvre competitors with a small, fast moving team offering a best in market (and much imitated) comparison service.

This role isn’t for the faint hearted… theres lots to learn and you will be expected to have a big impact on driving the performance of the platform to the next level!
That being said we’re not expecting people to be experts in all areas, more-so people who are keen to learn and open to new technologies. We’re interested in speaking to people who:
* Care about the needs of the users of the infrastructure
* Enjoy investigating and solving complex issues
* Have worked / have any experience of Kubernetes
* Can write code (they mainly use Go and Ruby but are open)
* Like to design and assess systems
* Understand the underpinnings of GNU/Linux
* Have experience with cloud infrastructure – Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Teams here are autonomous, guided by a leadership group but free to solve problems in any way they see fit. This is a great step in terms of career progression - aside from the tech the company has a free gym, games room, in-house barista and free breakfasts / snacks (These are just part of an extensive benefits package that includes a generous contributory pension, bonus schemes, life assurance and much more!)

For more details please apply for an initial call back regarding the role / your experience or call Andy Welden on 02920 252500 for a confidential chat and more information on the role.
