  • Reference IP30570-JE-HM
  • Location London
  • Job type Permanent

We’re helping scale the technical team for a FS company in London and keen to speak with Data Scientists with strong statistical skills and a real interest in huge data sets!

Cutting through all the normal advert nonsense, this role a new position in the company, joining a reasonably large data science team. You’ll be working right the way across the business providing technical and thought leadership in the use of data science, machine learning and other statistical techniques. The team draws insight from internal and external data sources on insurance products, customers and operational processes as well as helps shape the strategic direction of data usage within the business.

About you…
Aside from the obvious required experience in a similar area we’re looking for someone with a strong academic background as well as solid analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

You should be comfortable owning processes and speaking with stakeholders across the business. Aside from that it would be great if you have experience with -
* Building predictive models using a wide variety of tools and techniques (e.g. linear or logistic regression, gradient boosted machines, random forest, regularisation, neural networks)
* Advanced data manipulation or experience of managing large-scale data sets within an analytical function (e.g. dplyr, pandas, SQL, etc.)
* Experience of commercial data science or analytics software (e.g. Python, R, etc.)
* Working knowledge of relevant development environments (e.g. PyCharm, RStudio, Visual Studio Code, eclipse) and shell scripting (e.g. Bash, PowerShell), version control (e.g. git, Subversion, Mercurial) etc

What you’ll be doing…
In essence you’ll be applying data science methodologies to real-world problems within a commercial environment – working with peers you’ll provide valuable insight and analytical services over diverse large scale structured and unstructured datasets and produce predictive models which will be implemented into business front end solutions.

You’ll be responsible for establishing efficient ways of implementing segmentation and predictive models; ensure that reusable data assets build smoothly on a regular basis; and increase automation across the pricing factor creation and modelling process.
The work undertaken will have considerable and measurable impact; either in price determination, cost reduction, revenue increase or enable new business opportunities.

Still here? Good!
