A software developer keen to learn new skills and work in an interesting environment is needed to join the NHS Wales Informatics Service (NWIS) based in central Cardiff. NWIS is responsible for the design, deployment and management of national Information, Communication & Technology (ICT) systems within NHS Wales and provides a range of services to the Welsh Government and NHS Organisations.

They supply over 70 software services to users across NHS Wales - As a public organisation they don’t report to shareholders; they support Doctors, Nurses and other clinical professionals, helping them provide specialist care to patients in Hospitals, GP practices and across the community; Whether it's providing child immunisations, caring for patients with terminal illnesses or even helping those dedicated to saving the lives of Ebola victims in West Africa – their software makes a difference!

The tech stack is large and diverse which allows them to offer a diverse range of opportunities. The ideal candidate will have proven experience and skills in the following areas but we will also accept applications from candidates who can demonstrate an aptitude to develop and learn these essential skills quickly:-
* HTML, CSS and JavaScript
* XML, XForms and XSLT
* eForms development in Orbeon Forms engine or alternative
* Database application development particularly Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL

We are seeking a talented software developer to work on the production of national clinical eForms. You will learn and be mainly working with XForms and SQL Server. You'll focus on building new interactive/dynamic eForms for clinical information applications from user requirements.

In joining this organization you not only give yourself the opportunity to work closely with experienced teams there is also a structured development programme including further formal training in the above as well as C#, Java, Agile, TFS and Apache Tomcat / IIS. The successful candidate will a dynamic development team writing software for national applications as well as support eForm solutions and its enterprise environment. Other requirements within this role will be to-
* Write quality, well-engineered, unit tested, maintainable and readable code.
* Implement unit tests and follow wherever possible a TDD approach.
* Participate in product and architecture development and design.
* Perform code reviews
