Amazon confirms UK Appstore launch

Amazon Appstore 21st June 2012

Amazon has revealed plans to roll out its Android Appstore across Europe later this year, suggesting that the Kindle Fire will soon make its way over to the UK too.

The online retailer announced that it has started accepting app submissions from developers in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and Spain in preparation for launching the Appstore outside the US.

Jim Adkins, Vice President of the Amazon Appstore, said that the company is “thrilled” with the success developers have experienced on the Amazon platform in the last 12 months.

“Some developers have seen revenue double since the launch of In-App Purchasing. We're excited to open the door to even more opportunity by expanding app sales outside the US,” he said.

“We see tremendous potential for current developers in our distribution program to grow with the international expansion. We also encourage new developers to join and participate in the platform's growth."

Developers who are new to the program can sign up at the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Portal. The company said that those already participating in the program will automatically have their apps made available for international sale by default.
