IT security professionals struggle with technology take-up - 09/03/2011

IT security professionals believe that more training is required to cope with the adoption of new and upcoming technologies, a survey from research firm Frost & Sullivan has revealed.

Cloud computing led the way as the main area of concern, with 92% of security professionals saying that they require additional training to gain a more detailed understanding of the technology.

Mobile devices, which have become increasingly present in the workplace in the past few years, also ranked highly on their list of security concerns. Some 66% saw this is an area where further training would be beneficial.

These fears over were reinforced by Adaptive Mobile earlier this month, which warned that the growing popularity of smartphones and other mobile devices has seen cyber criminals turn their attention away from traditional computer attacks to mobile scams.

Social networking was the other new technology to be highlighted as a challenge. The survey found that security policies governing the use of social networks were inconsistent, and around 30% of respondents said their company had no restrictions on the use of social media at all.
