IntaPeople win place on Buying Solutions public sector framework agreement - 05/01/2010
IntaPeople, Wales’ largest independent ICT recruitment consultancy, has won a place on a prestigious public sector framework agreement.
‘Buying Solutions’ is the national procurement partner for UK public services and is an Executive Agency of the Office of Government Commerce in the Treasury that provides a professional procurement service to public sector organisations. It was created to focus procurement on a single unified brand, with the name being changed from ‘OGCbuying.solutions’ to ‘Buying Solutions’, and the subsequent withdrawal of previously well-known Catalist and Managed Services sub-brands, thereby providing greater clarity for public sector customers and delivering more to suppliers.
The Framework, which went live on 4th January 2010, will allow IntaPeople to supply a range of non-medical, non-clinical staff to public sector organisations throughout England and Wales. Not only will the core business of ICT recruitment benefit from this new arrangement, but also the other specialist teams under the IntaPeople banner, including Legal People, IntaPeople Engineering and IntaPeople Executive and Interim Resourcing.
In order to be awarded a place on the Framework, IntaPeople undertook a rigorous selection process to ensure its compliance with European procurement standards in areas such as sustainability, quality, environmental standards, equality and diversity and competitive pricing. After completion of a detailed pre-qualification questionnaire in mid-2009, IntaPeople was shortlisted to tender for a place on the Framework last Autumn. Justin Gyphion, In-House Counsel and Principal Consultant at IntaPeople, who managed the pre-qualification and tender processes, is delighted to have been successful in being awarded a place – “The non-medical, non-clinical resources framework opens up a whole world of new opportunities for IntaPeople to move forwards into 2010 and beyond. Our belief is that we will see continued success in bucking the trend of the recession in a highly competitive industry at a very challenging time. The very fact we have been successful in securing a place on the framework highlights our ability to compete with the ‘plc agencies’ on a local and a national level and is the result of many years of hard work.”
The Framework, which is for a period of 2 years with a possible 2 year extension, will see IntaPeople vying to supply staff to various public sector organisations in England and Wales, with particular focus on the National Health Service.

“We did it!!” - Ty Hafan Taff Trail Charity Cycle Challenge – 08/09/2009
IntaPeople's 4-man cycling team completed Sunday's gruelling 55 mile (88.5km) Ty Hafan Taff Trail Challenge in a respectable time of 5hrs 30 mins. Not bad considering none of us had ever cycled more than 15 miles in one day before, plus one of the team had a dislocated finger from playing 80mins of competitive rugby the day before! The day wasn’t without it’s events though, one suffered with cramps for the best part of 40 miles, and we also ‘took a wrong turn’ 3 times, - cycling several miles in the wrong direction at one stage.
Out of 75 teams competing in the challenge, our team came in approx. 20th overall. All 4 riders crossed the finish line in Cardiff Bay at 2:30pm and were greeted by friends and IntaPeople colleagues as well as event staff handing out much-needed refreshments!
All in all, it was a good day out. Our team have a few bumps & bruises, aching muscles, etc. but despite this they all turned up for work today!
So far, we have raised over £1,500 for Ty Hafan and the donations keep coming in. The JustGiving site closes in 7 days, so any last minute donations – no matter how large or small are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all your support and donations, and we look forward to our next fundraising event at IntaPeople!

IntaPeople commits to the Ty Hafan Taff Trail Charity Cycle Challenge – 06/08/2009
IntaPeople has entered a team of 4 employees (i.e. our grand old man Phil Handley, (he’s threatened to enter on his childhood penny farting cycle), Ian (the Beast) Blackburn, Justin (supreme athlete) Gyphion and Craig (the fastest cyclist in Wales) Jackson) to participate in the 8th annual “Tŷ Hafan Taff Trail Cycle Challenge”, one of the longest cycling challenges in Wales.
The 55 mile/85.5 k cycle challenge starts from Brecon at 9am on Sunday 6th September 2009, and will take the riders along the ‘full’ Taff Trail. Along the way the riders will pass through several towns and villages, along canal paths, and past stunning reservoirs on their way to the finish line at Cardiff Bay.
As a company, IntaPeople raise money each year for a number of charities including Jeans for Genes, Red Nose Day and Wear it Pink. Last year, we raised over £1,200 for Children in Need with our ‘IntaPeople Cycle-athon’ (when our team cycled the distance from central Cardiff to central London in under 8 hours).
Via this year’s event we are aiming to raise over £1,000 for Tŷ Hafan, a children's hospice who provide help and support to life-limited children, young people and their families, allowing them to make the most of their time together.
We have created a web page on the fundraising site JustGiving (www.justgiving.com/intapeople2) where you can sponsor our riders and help support a fantastic cause.
All donations no matter how large or small are welcome. Please click here to visit our JustGiving web page.
Your help and support for Ty Hafan will be very much appreciated!

IT News - UK bosses push for 250,000 IT jobs - 30/07/2009
Released on 23rd July 2009 - Source: Contractor UK
Britain’s leading technology companies have set aside their rivalries to form a coalition willing the creation of 250,000 IT jobs within the next decade.
They said the employment booster to the nation’s “IP-rich” IT sector was vital for the economy, given the decline of manufacturing and the “shock” to financial services.
To ensure the quarter of a million new IT jobs emerge, at the earliest by 2017, political, business and academic captains were told to sign the Technology Manifesto.
Created by software firm Micro Focus, and already backed by more than 30 influential figures, the manifesto states five directives for using the IT sector to stimulate the economy.
The directives include the introduction of radical changes to tax incentives for companies and individuals who want to invest in growing technology businesses in the UK.
Specific “fiscal incentives” for UK-based IT companies should accompany the reform, the manifesto says, to accelerate the UK’s output of world-leading R & D.
And the “good will” of successful IT entrepreneurs overseas should be called upon, by inviting them to mentor IT start-ups in the UK which show high-growth potential.
“The over-riding goal of the manifesto is to increase UK technology jobs by 250,000,” said the document’s signatories, who include BT Global Services, Carphone Warehouse, Virgin Media, Oracle, Tata Consultancy UK, Kingfisher IT and INSEAD.
This job-creation process should “significantly raise the contribution by home-grown technology businesses to GDP over the next ten years, thus providing a real roadmap for recovery by creating sustainable jobs, businesses and wealth,” the companies said.
Stephen Kelly, Micro Focus chief executive, spoke of the economy being currently "saddled with debt, decline, depleted industry and deteriorating employment," but said its IP-rich industries had the capability to "make Britain great again."
Recruitment News - Permanent placements fell at slowest rate for over a year in June - 16/07/2009
Released on 8 July 2009
June's Report on Jobs shows that job market conditions continued to worsen but at a much slower pace than seen around the turn of the year.
The Financial Times today carries a story about the Report, published by the REC and KPMG, which states that although permanent placements continued to decrease in June, the latest drop was the weakest in 13 months. Similarly, temporary/contract staff billings declined at the slowest rate since last September.
Demand for staff also contracted at a slower rate. The number of permanent job vacancies fell at the weakest rate in nine months, while the latest drop in temporary/contract staff vacancies was the smallest in eight months.
Key points of the report are:
- Weaker declines in permanent and temporary staff appointments
- Candidate availability continued to rise strongly
- Further drop in staff pay
June data pointed to a further reduction in employee pay, reflecting weak demand for staff and high levels of candidate availability. Permanent staff salaries fell at a marked rate, albeit the slowest in six months. Temporary/contract staff pay declined at a similar pace to May.
Recruitment consultants alsp reported another month of rising staff availability. The supply of both permanent and temporary/contract candidates increased sharply, albeit at the slowest rates in nine and eight months respectively.
Kevin Green, the REC's Chief Executive says: “The UK jobs market shows signs of life. June had the best performance in the placement of permanent staff for a year. Whilst the public sector has continued to recruit, it is now critical that demand returns to the private sector to negate the potential public expenditure constraints that we are likely to see over the next few years which could in turn hinder a full recovery of the UK jobs market.
“An increasing number of recruiters are reporting a rise in the demand for temporary and contract staff. Flexible working options will provide a crucial way back into work for a number of jobseekers which is why we must ensure that the new regulations covering agency work do not limit these opportunities.”
Mike Stevens, Partner and Head of Business Services at KPMG comments: “Although the rate of decline for permanent and temporary placements continues to slow, it is probably too early to talk about a recovery in the UK jobs market. One reason why we see continued improvements may be that more UK employers are asking staff to work reduced hours for lower pay in return for less aggressive redundancy plans.
"This approach is definitely one of the hallmarks of the current recession. Many employers understand they need to engage properly with employees to address the difficult economic situation. They are keen to retain access to the knowledge and skills of their staff and employees can feel slightly less insecure. This approach may have played a part in moderating the impact on employment during the current recession.”
The Report on Jobs provides the most comprehensive guide to the UK labour market, drawing on original survey data provided by recruitment consultancies.
Local News - Private sector winning jobs race - 01/05/2009
Jobs are being created faster in the private sector than in the public sector in Wales, according to the Welsh Assembly Government. Between 1999, when the National Assembly for Wales was created, and 2007 private sector employment in Wales grew 12 per cent, while state jobs increased by 8 per cent. In the UK overall the positions were reversed with private employment growing by 7 per cent compared with 11 per cent in government jobs. The figures may change once the rise in unemployment is taken into account.
Local News - Cardiff ahead in the transport race - 27/02/2009
Cardiff is the easiest city in the UK to get around but still needs a link between the M4 and the Bay, a report by property consultancy GVA Grimley has found.
The Welsh capital came top of GVA’s Transport Friendly Towns survey, up from third in 2003 when the study was started, thanks mainly to improvements in rail service levels. Bristol came in the bottom of the survey, as it was in 2003. Tim Gent, director at GVA Grimley in Cardiff, said: “Part of Cardiff’s success is because of its transport demand levels, which are comparatively low relative to other cities.
Road network and transport expenditure by the local authority is also above average. A key ingredient to future success is the Eastern Bay Link, which is an urgent priority for the city.” GVA calculated its rankings by looking at the relationship between transport supply and demand, and property.
PEDAL POWER RAISING POUNDS FOR PUDSEY - 12/11/2008
Directors and Consultants from IntaPeople will be trading their suits and ties for shorts and trainers to raise money for this year’s Children in Need appeal. IntaPeople staff – Wales’ leading independent recruitment consultancy - will be taking part in a 240 km/10 hour cycle-thon outside the Mercure Holland House Hotel - Cardiff on Thursday 13th November, starting at 8am and finishing at 6pm.
The Cardiff based agency were finalists in this years’ FastGrowth50 awards, that recognises the fastest growing companies in the country out of a business population of over 200,000. This is the second time that IntaPeople have been shortlisted for the award – the last time they were nominated was in 2000, when they won.
The fundraising event has been organised by Amanda Tilley, IntaPeople’s Finance Manager. She said:
“As a company we raise money each year for a number of charities including Jeans for Genes, Red Nose Day and Wear it Pink. This year we wanted to beat our previous record by raising the most amount of money for Children in Need. For this reason we have decided to do something a little different.
We have set a challenge for 10 of our staff to complete the 240 km on a cycling machine outside the Mecure Holland House hotel. This is the equivalent distance as from our office in Central Cardiff to the BBC Television centre in Central London, from which the Children in Need appeal is broadcast.”
Phil Handley, joint managing director of IntaPeople, will be the first person to take to the saddle for what promises to be a hugely successful event raising money for Children in Need.
We are looking to raise £500 for Children in Need and have set up a fund raising page (www.justgiving.com/intapeople) for sponsors to donate to. All donations, no matter how large or small are truly welcome!!
