Oracle takes Google to court over Android OS - 17/08/2010

Oracle is taking legal action against Google over claims that the search giant intentionally used its Java technology as part of the Android mobile operating system.

Oracle has stated its belief that Google "knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle's Java-related intellectual property" when developing the Android.

Oracle acquired Java through a high profile $5.6 billion purchase of Sun Microsystems earlier this year. It is thought that Oracle’s latest stance is an indication that the company will start to crack down on the unlicensed use of Java.

Oracle is believed to be seeking damages and an injunction to prevent Google from further building and distributing Android phone. Google has said that it has not yet had a chance to review the case, which was filed in California.

According to recent reports, Google is currently selling around 200,000 smartphones every day.
