Budget biggest concern for IT managers in 2011 - 31/01/2011
The majority of IT managers feel that budgetary restrictions will be one their key challenges in 2011, according to UK-wide research from Frontier Technology.
Some 66.1% of 22,000 IT, business continuity and senior managers interviewed by the IT solutions company said that a lack of budget would be their primary concern this year.
When quizzed on their money-saving plans for the next 12 months, most firms said that they would be investing in virtualisation or self-service initiatives.
Although internal resources was identified as an area of inefficiency, around a quarter said that they would still be reducing the size of their IT department.
Frontier Technology says that the survey highlights how most IT departments are driven by budget as opposed to their requirements and efficiency needs.
Edwin Wong, managing director at Frontier Technology, told Computer Weekly that cost reductions could seriously hinder the progress of companies in the UK.
"Regardless of the economy, IT requirements do not change. When firms cut IT projects company-wide productivity will fall, resulting in the organisation losing their competitive advantage and profits," he said.
Cloud computing is an area that companies will be looking to explore in 2011, with 25% hoping to reduce their costs with the help of cloud solutions.
