Most IT pros positive about cloud computing
27th June 2012
Around nine out of ten (91%) IT decision makers have a positive opinion of cloud computing, according to a recent survey commissioned by Rackspace.
The survey of 500 IT professionals showed that customer service and technical support are seen as key considerations when choosing a cloud provider.
75% said they would prefer a supplier with strong customer service and technical support even if it meant paying more.
Rackspace CEO Lanham Napier said that the findings show decision makers understand the importance of choosing a cloud provider “that empowers their businesses with the systems, products, and customer service capabilities to successfully make the transition to the cloud”.
92% of IT pros revealed that being able to move data easily between cloud providers was an important consideration for them, while 86% said that the issue of vendor lock-in also weighed heavily on their mind.
Napier said that the main benefit of using open-source technology is the portability of workloads across vendors, in addition to the elimination of vendor lock-in.
