Questions to ask at an interview

It might not seem obvious at first, but the ‘have you got any questions?’ part of the interview is one of the best opportunities to sell yourself to a potential employer.

Far from being a sign of weakness, asking questions is an excellent indication that you are thinking seriously about the role that you could play in the company. A thoughtful and well-posed question could mean the difference between getting the job or not.

Remember not to bombard your interviewer with too many questions, though. Pick what you feel are the best few and run with those. The following are some questions you might consider asking at your interview:

    • What exactly will this role entail?
    • Why has this position become available?
    • What is the culture of the company?
    • Do you offer any induction and training programmes?
    • Are there advanced training programmes available for those who perform well?
    • What are the company’s key objectives for the next 3 years?
    • What are your best-selling products or services?
    • Is there room for progression within the company?
    • What are the company’s main revenue streams?
    • What are the main challenges currently facing the company?
    • Could you describe how this role relates to the overall structure of the company?
    • How will my performance be measured?
